Book Burning

Philosopher and director Pieter De Buysser has invented a new genre: the “transformatador”. It is “a performative, literary and visual genre that transforms everyday energy into a mythical creature with delicate legs, grotesque wings, political claws and big inquisitive eyes. In short, a being that would make even matadors nervous.” In Book Burning, De Buysser tells stories about the traumas of history, fate and friendship. Monstrous stories that enter into obscure territories. A collection of tales that question the contemporary form of censorship represented by the dissemination of information. For doesn’t the dogma of freedom of information also hamper the development of a critical mind? The narration is supported by an object, a wunderkammer created by artist Hans Op de Beeck. Like a computer screen, this cabinet of curiosities opens up the world, revealing it room by room, detail by detail, getting ever closer… and ever more alienating.
