Eszter Salamon Budapest / Berlin

Dance #1 / Driftworks

After her classical dance training at the National Dance Academy in Budapest, Eszter Salamon worked with several choreographers in France. In 2001 she created the solo production What a Body You Have, Honey and co-produced, along with Xavier Le Roy, the work Giszelle, which was presented at the Festival d'Avignon. In 2002 she created Woman Inc.©, a performance with eighteen women aged from 7 to 74, invited by the Comédie de Clermont-Ferrand. Two years later, as an artist-in-residence at the Podewil TanzWerkstatt in Berlin, Salamon created Reproduction. Also in 2004 she was a laureate at the Villa Médicis Hors les Murs. In 2005 the first version of Magyar Tàncok was shown at the festival Les Intranquilles in Lyon. At the beginning of 2006 she premiered Nvsbl at the Choreographischen Zentrum Pact Zollverein, in Essen. In 2007 she created AND THEN at the Kunstenfestivaldesarts.

Dance #1 is an exuberant duet by the choreographers Eszter Salamon and Christine de Smedt (Les Ballets C. de la B.). Together they composed an ingenious score that is performed several times and in which the body constantly transforms. The composition of their movements reflects their quest for the sense and necessity of movement. The seriousness of the study is countered by a clever carousel of lighting, sound and costume changes that play a frivolous game with the viewer's perceptions.
