Alma Söderberg & Hendrik Willekens Malmö / Brussels

Working in Brussels, Swedish choreographer and dancer Alma Söderberg has over several years gained attention with her peculiar solos in which she plays with the rhythms and musicality of body and language. At the Kunstenfestivaldesarts 2014 she is creating a duet with Belgian artist Hendrik Willekens! Idioter - the title refers to the search for something we cannot even name - unfolds on two levels. Alma develops a choreographic score for language, voice, and movement; Hendrik makes perspective drawings. Together they compose music with a synthesizer and a drum machine. All elements have their own place but are closely intertwined. The presentation emerges as a live concert performance that each time starts from scratch. Idioter is an audio-visual adventure, a bold collage of movement, sound, and image by two extraordinary artists. Worth exploring!

Hendrik Willekens was born in Belgium and continues to live and work there. He studied theatre and mime and has collaborated with and worked for the likes of Roy Peters, John The Houseband and Nicole Beutler.

Alma Söderberg is a choreographer, performer and musician, having studied flamenco, contemporary dance and choreography. She graduated from SNDO, the choreography department of the Amsterdam School of the Arts, in 2010. Alma produces performances in which sound, movement and speech (singing, dancing and talking) are equally important. She has created three solo performances: EntertainmentCosas and Travail. She as an ongoing collaboration with Jolika Sudermann with whom she created A Talk, and plays in the performance band John The Houseband.
