Lotte van den Berg / OMSK Dordrecht

Les Spectateurs

Lotte van den Berg was born in Groningen in 1975. She's always been captivated by the theater. After her childhood watching her father, theater-maker at work, she studied Theatre Studies and Philosophy at the University of Amsterdam. In 1998 she was accepted at the Amsterdam School of the Arts, Theatre Direction. During her scholarship, she directed some spectacle and after graduating, Lotte immediately started working freelance as a director for various Flemish and Dutch companies. From 2005 till the beginning of 2009 she worked for het Toneelhuis in Antwerp. There she gets to know the structure and the organization of a big theatre and she gets the opportunity to further develop herself artistically. In 2008-2009 her productions continue to tour in Belgium and abroad. The beginning of 2009 ushered in a new stage in her career. She left Toneelhuis to become artistic director of a new structure in Dordrecht called OMSK. She continues her artistic adventure within that new structure where she has been joined by a number of actors and artists.

Now she's working on the notion of "what makes a place your home", therefore she's planning to travel to different places in order to know how these new places affect her world and performances. The first stage OMSK Brussels she lets the performance "Het verdwalen in kaart with the inhabitants of Dordrecht interfere with citizens of Brussels. In order to get to know the place, she creates the performance "En passant" an opening event in which she questions the notion of ‘a group' (How do people gather? What is a horde, a crowd, a group?), their behavior and their movements in the city.

Afterwards, she'll leave for Kinshasa, the next stop in her search to relate herself and her work to a world which is constantly in motion. The project, OMSK Kinshasa 2010/2012, is simple, in 2010 a team of artists (theatre makers, writers, filmmakers, and architects) will stay in Kinshasa for five months, living and working among the people there. Together they will realize projects, presentations and performances in the public area. The Kinshasa team will remain in communication with their ‘home base Dordrecht' using letters, video messages, internet and couriers. After returning home in October 2010 the material and experience of Kinshasa and the culture shock of coming home to the regulated Dutch society with wich OMSK will go for an European tour in 2010-2012, Graz, Lisbon, Rotterdam, Brussels...
